We love welcoming guests to Glanleam, our family home and invite you to relax in the great comfort of this heritage house. A house featuring strong in local history and being just as vibrant in modern times.
Large windows with stunning views across the bay, spacious rooms, high ceilings and a mix of antique and more modern furniture make the house a pleasure to be in. Bringing the outdoors in, the house is enhanced with fresh flowers and greenery from Glanleam’s gardens, sea shells or a nice round washed stone from a walk at the beach or a peculiar looking piece of timber from Glanleam’s woods. After a windy day something subtropical and exotic might even find its way in the door.
In the evening time get lost in a book in the library, hook up with other guests and after a walk on a breezy day out to the lighthouse warm up by the open fire. Or retreat to your comfortable bedroom and revitalise in a warming hot bath or powerful shower in Glanleam’s own mineral rich spring water.
Enjoy the elegance of the splendid dining room for breakfast or dinner. Jessica loves baking our own breads. Its scent drifting through the house has brought many guests into the kitchen when returning after a night out of ceili/Irish dancing in a local pub.
Breakfast is said to be one of the best in Ireland and it will set you up for the whole day, whatever your plans. Traditional buttermilk for baking and fresh natural yogurt come from a farm up the road (Valentia Island Dairy). Eggs are laid by our own hens and if you are lucky the geese might lay an egg for you! We are still waiting on our ducks to pop out their first egg, but they surely will be tasty!
Dinner is available on most nights, with vegetables and herbs from our walled garden as much as possible, fresh fish and seafood is caught just out from the lighthouse and features strongly and meat is sourced locally. We thrive on providing freshness and simplicity, just enhancing the natural ingredients without altering them too much.
